Donald Andrew “Donnie” McClurkin, Jr. is a popular American gospel singer and minister. Donnie is one of the top-selling gospel artists of this century. He has sold over ten million albums worldwide. The Grammy Award-winning artist is known for his work in the contemporary Christian music scene. Donnie McClurkin was also named “Reigning King of Urban Gospel”  by Variety

Early Life

Donnie McClurkin was born in Copiague, New York, on November 9, 1959. However, he had a rough childhood. When Donnie was eight years old, his younger brother was killed in a car accident. During this period, his family went through a very rough patch. It was during this time that Donnie found comfort and peace by going to a church. This is when he developed his musical skills as a gospel singer. By the time he was in his teens, Donnie had already formed the “McClurkin Singers”. 

Music Career

The gospel singer and minister signed a label for his 1996 EP “Donnie McClurkin”. This was a result of his friendship with a Warner Alliance executive. The EP, which also featured the popular track “Stand” was a super hit. It also went gold after being publicly lauded by Oprah Winfrey. Some of his best-known tracks include “Stand”, “We Fall Down”, and “Great is Your Mercy”. The gospel singer and minister has released several iconic gospel music albums. This includes “Live in London and More”, and “We All Are One: Live In Detroit”, amongst others. 

Throughout his music career, Donnie McClurkin has also won numerous awards. This includes ten Stellar Awards, three Grammy Awards, two Soul Train Awards, two BET. Awards, one NAACP Image Award, and one Dove Award. Donnie McClurkin also serves as the Senior Pastor at the Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, New York. Being one of the most influential gospel music artists of this century, Donnie McClurkin’s music continues to inspire millions.
